Ameren Missouri Community Solar Field Debrief Community Solar offers Ameren Missouri customers a new choice to help add solar generation to the electric grid. 1. What is Community Solar? Community solar allows eligible customers to purchase energy associated with a solar installation in the Ameren Missouri service territory. (Ameren Missouri, 2019) Community Solar is an increasingly popular option for deploying solar technology. Ameren Missouri’s Community Solar program allows eligible customers who do not have a sufficient solar resource, who rent their homes, or who are otherwise unable or unwilling to install solar on their residences or commercial buildings, to subscribe to blocks of a shared solar system at a predetermined rate. (Ameren Missouri, 2019) 2. Where is a Community Solar program currently located in Missouri? Construction of Ameren Missouri Lambert Community Solar Center, one (1) megawatt solar energy generation facility was completed August of 2019 at its St. Louis International Airport location. (Ameren Missouri, 2019) 3. What are some of the benefits? Once online, the solar farm will generate renewable energy for homeowners, renters and small businesses across Missouri. (Hinson, 2019) Community Solar is a simple solution for customers who want to take part in solar generation…It's easy and accessible for virtually everyone; homeowners, renters and small businesses (Ameren Missouri, 2019) Nothing is installed on a customer's roof and Ameren Missouri takes care of maintaining the solar panels. (Ameren Missouri, 2019) Community Solar is convenient. The power generation portion of customers’ bills will be locked in and will not be subject to future rate increases during the duration of their subscription. (Ameren Missouri, 2019) 4. Why would someone consider signing up for a Community Solar program? "Not every customer has the same needs," explained Ameren's Matt Forck, "so these are customers that maybe have shade trees around their home or maybe they have a condo unit so they can subscribe to solar blocks here and offset about half of their energy use with renewable, clean solar energy." (Hinson, 2019) 5. Is there a plan to create more Community Solar Fields in Missouri? Subscriptions for the (Lambert Airport) solar energy blocks filled up in just 55 days. There is a waiting list and Forck says more facilities are in the works. (Hinson, 2019) Solar sites need to meet certain requirements and planners were lucky the hill by the airport checked all the boxes.
